KEANE SAMMON – SEABIRD TECHNICIAN

Raised in the outdoors, Keane has always had a vested interest in wildlife and conservation. He earned his B.A. in Biology from Hendrix College in the spring of 2022. During his studies, he participated in population monitoring of the Texas frosted elfin butterfly, bird banding, and monitoring animal populations around Little Rock, Arkansas, using camera traps. Additionally, he gained research experience in various locations worldwide, including Costa Rica, Belize, and South Africa. It was during his time in South Africa that he developed a passion for seabirds. With a grant from the Hendrix College Odyssey Program, Keane worked for the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds, gaining experience in marine ornithology. After graduating, he continued his passion by working for Save Our Shearwaters in Kaua‘i, where he was introduced to native Hawaiian seabird species.
