Distribution: Hawaiian endemic.  Around 90% of the world’s population is found on Kaua‘i, with smaller populations breeding on Maui and the Island of Hawai‘i.  Historically bred on O‘ahu, Lāna‘i, and Moloka‘i.

ARC focus: Colony management, trend monitoring, powerline strike and minimization, telemetry, social attraction

Project sites: Pihea, North Bog, Pōhākea, Hanakāpīʻai and Hanakoa (all in Hono O Nā Pali Natural Area Reserve), Upper Limahuli Preserve, Upper Manoa and Honopū¹ - and two predator-proof fence enclosures; in Pōhākea (Pōhākea PF) and Honopū (Honopū PF)
